After months of debating if and when I can sell my boat , what boat we might buy next, factoring in if we went larger could we justify mooring costs? In which case we would stay where we are and put up with the bridge etc, and restricted movement times due to our air draught.

Well I've waited too long, I've thought long and hard being in a Marina where we can leave when we want and return when we want, not being governed by the tides, which means we can stay out longer when otherwise we would have to be returning on a Sunday at X o'clock to get under the bridge so my wife can set off for home at 3 pm, also leaving say bembridge on a rising tide meant we wouldn't get under the bridge unless we gunned it all the way, so to hell with all that.

After speaking to Natalie at swanwick, talking a deal on a winter berth and signing for 12 months, it's actually not costing me a lot more spread over the next 18months compared to where I am now, an excellent result thanks to the management there, yes I'm sharing a 30 metre pontoon, which actually happens to be with alan g off this forum.

We have been allocated x pontoon which is right out of the centre area at swanwick overlooking the river and public slipway, they also gave me the option to upgrade to a single pontoon by April next year should we not like the location.

Yes I would still like another boat but if we still have the same boat by the start of warmer cruising times then that's fine, at least we can use her at any time we wish.

Were moving next Sunday so if anyone's in swanwick please come and say hello.

We were consigned to a locked-in berth for most of this season - and it's a complete pain in the derriere. We've now got 24/7 access to the salty stuff. :)

Hope your new surroundings keep you smiling.

Don't blame you Paul, that bridge is a pain in the arse! Trouble is I like the social life and people at the chandlery barge so I won't be moving anywhere soon, I hope you enjoy the posh end :D

Same deal

Hi Paul

I'm on the same deal albeit with a much smaller boat. Part of the agreement is that you can be moved around and in fact I have just been shifted off X pontoon - probably to make room for you (X8). Now on E10 so come and have a gander. I need your services anyway but will PM you on that (sent)

Paul
Don't think you will regret the move. Swanwick is well-run and pretty much everything works as it should. I've been on B pontoon for the past year (yacht called Resolution) and find it very convenient.
One word of warning: watch the tidal flows carefully, I get some peculiar eddies which make my already appalling boat handling even more dodgy.
Good luck.
Peter

Cant seem to PM

Paul - I have tried to send you a PM but it doesnt seem to have gone. Can you PM me with your email address and I will send you over the spec for the work I would like you to do

All the best

Stuart

Hi Paul

hope you enjoy your new marina, thanks very much for the brew this morning and the free tickets to the show very much appreciated.

i hope you have some good luck in selling your boat i was very impressed with the boat and it will make someone a great boat with LOADS of space

speak next week mate

Good decision Paul. Locks, bridges, sills, drying moorings etc. are such a PITA if you're a weekend sailor and want to make the best use of your valuable time. I appreciate they're a necessary evil for some for location or budget reasons, but much better to avoid them if you can IMO.

Flippin eck lad, thas a bertholder now! (Northern talk)

I guess better overall for Mrs VP socially and security wise if your working etc

Must call by for that northern brew next time we are down

Hope all well

Cheers

Mark (Gritty Northener)

Hi Mark please do call in for a northern brew anytime , a slight security view was one of the reasons too. Cheers .

Shall miss waving! But a good decision with your boat. As mentioned X has some interesting tides - enjoy :-)

Yes Jon I gather they do there so will have to see how bad they are,I've already spoke to Alan g with the nimbus I m sharing with he mentioned that too, though can't be any worse than the speed of tides between our current moorings on the ebb.

Nice one - I am a bit surprised that you are spending nearly the same money over 18months is that a combp of a winter rate to April and then a 12 months contract therafter?

Under the bridge I thought was much cheaper reflecting the inconviences you mention
