new Mochi 54 Dolphin

Nice machine! gigm they do a 70-something footer too. I think that, unlike the brochure shots and the pic on Poweyacht's blog, in the real world people seem to order these with guard rails :-)

Taken off Calvi, Corsica, July 2007 (not the new 54 model)

The Mochi Dolphin range is one boat that I would buy with my heart, not my head. It is easy to criticize things like the small flybridge (on the 54 Fly), relatively small saloon, lack of shade over the cockpit, lack of handrails around the deck, small galley but these boats just look gorgeous to my eyes, especially with the coloured hulls. I also like the traditionally styled interiors. I think Mochi were very brave to introduce this new design direction and they deserve every success
What are these boats like at sea? Good or bad? Wet or dry?

so Deleted User let me answer your critism first:

- the small flybridge (on the 54 Fly) = I agree prefare the HT version no fly
- relatively small saloon = ok compared to a Ferretti it is
- lack of shade over the cockpit = the shade goes out automatic also on the small 44 Dol model
- lack of handrails around the deck = you can have it as optional as JFM pointed out its only for the pictures they are like that usually
- small galley = you dont buy this for a galley but I think it is fairly sized compare it more with an open HT boat then with Fly one

as for the ride I have heard only good reviews about them, have a friend who bought a Mochi 51 Dolphin and he says only positive things about it

I agree about the heart I am in love with the 44 Dolphin, it is one of my favorite boats and if you compare it to a 44 Targa GT I think it is more spacious

Dunno about the 54 but the 44 is 'wet' .....like really 'wet'. Cuts the mustard in the rough but chucks up lots of spray and you get soaked in the cockpit. Helm ergonomics not brill but that could be levelled at a lot of med 'in vogue' styles. Still it is a goregous looking machine though and you wouldn't say no would you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Personally though for 50 odd foot I prefer this, beautifully finished and more practical and is a fantastic sea boat.

Another fine looking boat which would look even better with a flybridge on top /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Yup I thought the Dolphin 44 might be wet as the VIDEO suggests that she runs quite flat and that upright forefoot throws up quite a lot of spray

I think she looks gorgeous and in the flesh the detail is amazing, not keen on the fly version though, spoils the lines.

If that's not to your taste what about this, very nicely finished and better built than the modern flybridge brigade. For her size I can't figure out how they got so much space in 46 ' , three cabins plus a beautiful crew cabin, good sized cockpit and a tender garage, saloon, galley and three heads. IPS 600's is an option. Really goes well in the rough too. I like the view out from those almost upright front screens vision in poor conditions is excellent.

I think she makes a great alternative for a cruising boat and would work really well UK waters cus she fits most places, has slidey roof too so you can enjoy the sun if we ever see it but ultra convservative UK peeps would run a mile and opt for usual fayre suppose.

Blimey, why did they use cheapish moquette for the main cabins' floor and parquet for the crew cabin?
Does the owner charter the boat and live in crew cabin?

I am still surprised to be honest Nautical

as I said on the Riviera in another post, how these kind of boats are not so succesful in England, I dont why people want a full blown away Sports Crusier, Hey even me here in the med am considering this kind of boat as my next option imagine a place like UK where one hardly sees the sun....

for me the Riviera, Mochi Dolphin, Abati 46 offer so much all weather comforts that they are unbeatable if u want an all weather boat

[/ QUOTE ]Careful, considering the summer that most of the ladies and gents around here enjoyed (well, didn't, that is!), you're risking a virtual lapidation.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mmm, just this time, I'm going to say that the flybridge detracts from this boat. It's very small and spoils the lines of the boat. Beautiful range of boats though

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif see can't win em all ! beautiful yacht though, really have to see it up close to appreciate the workmanship puts many boats more expensive to shame and shows what the Italian's do best, small yards passionate about building the best of the best and profit comes second. There are loads of yards like this in Italy. Crickey I should be employed by the Italian chamber of commerce /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I have said it so many times before (and been unpopular for it ) why oh why do we make it so hard for these yards to come to our shows, wait lists, years to get a good spot and a bloomin fortune if your not BMF and have built up the big discounts over so many shows, it would take years for a new comer to get any amount of decent space. No wonder on a world stage our shows are considered just little local affairs. There really is a huge world of marine industry out there, I mean what we see here is just the tip of an enormous iceberg.

I'll get off my soap box now /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Snapped this last Dusseldorf show, just look at the finish on that hull, really dark blue the hardest to get right, must have been a lot of hours went to that!.

"sun pad forward, innovative additional sun pad on top of the coach roof, but also hidden design touches like the tender garage or the expendable platform for increased sea enjoyment space"

From the blog page. Seems like they're desperate to get sun pads everywhere. The lines look nice but that's in the eye of the beholder, totally dangerous for any 'fender bitch' to walk round and I completely miss the point above, 'expendable platform for increased sea enjoyment space' What? havin' a larf!.

Nautical, I totally agree with your point about there being a whole big world out there and the crap way UK exhibitions are run. The problem for us locals that can't get to european shows is that on threads like this one, we find it hard to follow as lobster boats from diff manufacturers look too similar.

I found myself tracking up and down to work out which is which from whom and from where. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
