Hello, may I introduce myself as a new member. My name is Ravi and I am living in south Cornwall. I have owned many boats over the years mostly sailing boats but as I getting older I changed to power. No problems with outbords on a coulpe of ribs which worked fine for a long time, but these are not good all wether boats for comfort so I changed for a small cruiser fitted with Volvo Gxi duoprop. This worked fine for a while, but on first long trip out there was horrible crashing noise then all stop. I had to be towed in by lifeboat. My engine was checked by engineer who said that some fishing line had broken the leg prop seal allowing water to get in and oil to get out. My gearbox is finished, and it is now cheaper to replace whole engine and leg due to Volvo build economies, but this is nearly a third of the price of the boat. For those of you who use boats around Falmouth is there much fishing lines and nets in the water, and do they usually cause much serious damage? I know bigger boats have cutters for this but I unlucky or should I get them fitted?
