New MDL marina in the Bay of Naples

Yep
I expect like lots of others, I got that email
Interesting
We had a holiday in Sorrento a few years back and as far as I can remember, that corner of Naples Bay was a bit commercial.
I wonder what the anchorages are like round there
Just initial thoughts

£6,500.00 to berth my 50ft boat there. I guess that is much cheaper than SoF.

Chartered a sailing boat out of Castellammare Di Stabia last year. It is about 1 klick from the MDL place. We went across the bay to Procida and Ischia, than back south to Sorrento, Capro, Positano etc.

At the risk of upsetting any devotees it is a bit of a mixed area. The marina and town around Castellammare is a bit rough, it looks like is used to be a fairly industrial area. We planned to stay there the first night on the boat and eat out, but the hand-over guy looked puzzled as to why we would do that and suggested leaving straight away and going down to Sorrento. Sorrento was pleasant if a bit touristy, though the food was good and not expensive.

We then crossed to Procida, which was again a bit run down, then on to Ischia which was well worth a visit and the round to Sant'angelo, which is small but lovely. I would happily go back, however I swam in a bay on the way (picked out as said to be fed by warm water) and got stung by a jelly fish across my arm. I now know what that is like, very painful, large red whelts showed exactly where the tentacles had gone.

Capri wasn't my cup of tea at all, an expensive marina and the town was full of tourists being ripped off, I shan't be back. Positano was a bit tired, but quite likeable. Our charter guy told us to ask for a particular guy to find us a space when we got there, but there was no need, he recognised the boat and came out to meet us. He took the wheel and performed the most impressive boat handling I have seen, you had to be there to believe it. Weaving a 50ft yacht through the harbour, in through a gap it clearly wouldn't go through (but did), into an area so close to the shore you would be mad to take a big boat in, spun it on the spot, with the bows missing rocks by inches, backed it in between two other boats, jumped off before it stopped moving and shouted "see you later" as he trotted off down the pontoon.

Unexpectedly on our return to Castellammare we found an excellent upmarket restaurant tucked away which did a very good tasting menu with the whole wine flight thing going on, Milu I think it was called.

As I said, mixed.

Was in the Bay of Naples on the sea yesterday the main islands are 15 M from Naples and 17 M apart .kinda triangle .
Naples is big city with usual big city probs you get with 2M population .
I was blatting about on an ITAMA in 1-2 Meter waves .
"Mixed "as above - buts its dead cheap beer 1/2 L € 3 ( SoF € 7 )
Pizza 6-7 €. Not 12-15 €
Same old rules - "yer pay for what you get " or "there's a reason why it's cheap"
It was 27 degrees yesterday in Naples .
