I had a good chat to the developer, a fellow motor boater and after 2 years and a considerable amount of his money he is very positive about this development.

Pwllheli Marina Development

It seems to tick all the boxes ie its closer and therefore part of the town and it has plenty to give back to the local comunity.

I was impressed but would be interested to see wht you guys think especially in light of the recent MBM article.

Looks impresive from The Link.
It's what the Area needs.
What about Dafydd Iwan and That Lot?
Didn't they muck up the last Propsal for the exra berths etc in Pwllheli?

Oh and whilst We are looking at Marina developement in North Wales.
"The Final" meeting was held in March ref The Beaumaris developement (Mena Straits folks) the Descision will out later this Month.

More info when I recieve it on that One!

Plans have also been submitted by www.porthdaniel.co.uk for 45 ish Pontoons at Mena Bridge.
So maybe there will be some progress this Year.
Not holding My breath though.
Too much Politics about!

Well hopefully by including a squwelsh cultural centre, local use stuff and reclaiming what is wasted land at present , he is hoping to get their support but still a long way to go I think.
I will be interested to hear what happens at Beaumaris as I have been watching that saga for years and I think that too would be a grat asset to the area. If nothing else it would give me somewhere to visit on stop over from Pwllheli.

Cheers Gary

"Full"?
Blimey look darn sarf for "full."
North Wales has so much potential.
Describe an arch/ ark/ arc/ big half a circle thinghy yer know what I mean! from Aberystywyth to Rhyl.
Beautifull cruising ground.
Barmouth, Porthmadoc, Pwllheli, Porth Dinllaen, Llanddwyn, Caernarfon, Port Dinorwic, Menai Bridge, Beaumaris, Deganwy,Conwy Llandudno, Rhos on Sea and Rhyl Harbour.

At the Mo Barmouth , vistors moorings only, as per Porth Dinllaen (one or two) Llanddwyn nowt. (well that's ok now there is an Area to keep as it is)
Caernarfon, yep a Marina and the River Seiont,.
Porthmadoc, yep Pontoons now (Great I may add and the Saily Club!) but not for the faint hearted to enter under wrong conditions.
Port Dinorwic , yep Safe Harbour and pontoons in the Basin and visitors moorings.
Diesel on pump but no petrol.
The only petrol availalability alongside is for the whole of the North Wales coast either Conwy Deganwy or Pwllheli!
Menai Bridge now has diesel.
Plus the Pier. Trickey if the Prince Madoc is occupying but doable.
No leccy but a hose pipe!
Beaumaris a few visitors moorings.
Which takes us on to the Conwy area.
Deganwy and Conway and Marinas!
Blimey! both types of fuel and Pontoons!
Then proceeding towards Liverpol
Nowt!
Apart from Rhos on Sea, no facilities and Rhyl which is difficult without Local knowledge.
The Area is no way full.
Tiss appearing full cos there is a demand that at the Mo cannot be "Full" filled.
Cos there is no place to park.

I,ve been afloat quite a bit over the last few Weeks.
Apart from a few boats doing training stuff I,ve hardly seen anyone.
And for the last 20 Years I don't remember it getting qute like The Solent
So parking We need!!
The Area can still stay Beautifull!

All these plans just simply ignore the proposed locations of the pontoons and the required water access to and in them. At present they are a sea of soft deep mud. Area 4, between the island and the settling pond, where most of the berths are planned, was dredged when the marina was built around 14 years ago to such a depth that boats drawing around 1m would almost stay afloat for most of the tidal cycle. Now the mud is so deep and soft that access to the moorings nearest to the channel for these boats have access only for a total of about 2h at HW. At low water yachts sink up to their bellies in the mud, its so soft. Area 4 is virtually land locked with no real water flow and any efforts to dredge it will soon be negated by new silt moving in. The area to the north of the island has not been dredged and strangely now has about the same depth of water but the mud seems firmer.

The channel to the marina and some of the marina itself has already silted up very badly. The efforts with the mud raker has not had any noticeable effects. There has recently been many complaints about the silting. Obviously it is possible to dredge but will it be allowed and where will the money come from? This past weekend I was told by several people that dredging had been banned for several years for environmental reasons and that after the discovery of chromium and nickel salts in the mud that there is nowhere to dump it. The settling pond alongside the council estate is full of this silt and the land behind the east wall of the harbour is made up of silt dredged from the harbour! Also, the mound of sand/silt at the seaward end of the harbour cannot now be moved because of the discovery of a fly which 'lives' in the sand.

The council has recently been loathe to dredge the harbour and the massive costs will always deter the dredging thats required every few years.

These environmental concerns and public/political/Welsh concerns about the effects to the locality and language of the people and the finding of the many millions of (non-public) money will delay this marina for many many years. When and if it does go ahead, if it has to contribute to the cost of the dredging, it mustl be even more expensive than the present.

Jeepers Kwacker...................

That was almost a sober replie! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I do agree with you it's not less boaters it's more parking that is needed and that way service will become one of the important contributions to where you want to spend your hard earned money.

Nothing like competition to keep the price down.

Yeh, I know.
It's been worrying Me all Day /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Quite agree - it's nothing like the Solent. Just the way we like it!!!!!!!!!!!
Places like Llanbedrog, Porth Cariad St Tuds etc are pretty congested now on a nice summer weekend (if ever we get anymore of them) and the worry is that these will get busier.

Other worry is there are probably 4 or 5 harbours within weekending distance which are already short on visitor space at times - what happens when all of these additional boats decide to spend Saturday night somewhere else?
Gwynedd council are a bit slow to develop the facilities and "milk" us for all they can get but that's part of the appeal of the area for many of us. If we want Solent we'll go there.

Cheers
