Anybody got one of the new design lewmar winch handles.

Do they make life easier with single arm operation using the push down bar or is it just a gimic ?

I'm all for making life easier when SWMBO winch's the sheet's in when racing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I bought the one with the knob on because it makes it easier to use both hands. I have not yet tried it on the boat but at LIBS you could try fitting it and removing it from a winch, and it certainly worked easily. Time will tell whether it will stand up to hard use. The mechanism consists of two small pins which retract when you press the bar on top, and spring out to retain the handle in the winch socket.

Saw them at the Dusseldorf Boat show. Nice idea and seemed to work well. Can be used with two hands. Thought they were a bit dear at €69, at the rate mine go overboard

Generally a bit dearer in the UK, though not quite as bad as the usual UK rip off. £49 (about €74) most places at LIBS, though I did get one for £44 from Piplers.

thanks for the reply, I am tempted to buy one to make life a bit easier on board. It's always a fiddle twisting the knob at the bottom. Assume they fit the standard lewmar winches. I have 28st - 32st - 44st on board.

I got one at the boat show, haven´t tried it at sea yet but playing around in the cockpit it seems very good. One handed operation. Fits my lewmar winches.
