My first thought is weather. At 11 metres I'm not convinced it could run All year round and cowes to portsmouth would be a fairly exposed route in certain conditions. The red jet is only out of shelter for 10 mins max and the much bigger wightlink cats are often cancelled in winter months but they bus you to their ferries.

Good lucky to them though :)

those Cheetah Marine catamarans are quite a bit of kit.... I reckon they would take most things dealt up in the solent.... the passengers on the other hand may not!
 
I knew Shaun at cheetah as a kid and quite agree they are awesome but as you say, would be an interesting ride :)
