New info about Corryvreckan?

Probably that it isn't due to a rock pinnacle. That's the story I've heard since I was a boy and didn't know it wasn't correct.

Fun place to sail with lots of odd effects. To the South you have an amphidrome between mainland, Islay and Jura. Anchored in Lowlandman's bay Jura lots of times and it's odd not to bother about tidal range (it's zero). But then you can get a fair tide all the way North to Oban (or close to Tobermory on a good day).

Tide doesn't half sweep you up through various narrows, close to rocks etc. Always twitchy passing the Gulf of Corryvreckan in case we are swept towards it. But has always turned out to be an interesting sail.

I'm not sure that having "surveyed it to an International Standard" will actually make it any "safer for people at sea". It's still the same Corryvreckan, and still needs the same respect.
I suppose that Sams have to try to justify their existence.

I was about to post exactly the same response. Not only do they need to justify their existence, but presumably also the cost of their echo sounder!
