I'm sure this has been asked, but a search retrieved nothing that suited our needs...

Looking to install a hot water system on an old tub. Basically from scratch... There is no pressurised cold water (or even serviceable CW tanks!), so it's got to be a full system. We want to fit a decent shower... And that's about it.

We have a bit of room at either end of the hull and that's pretty much it.

Does anyone have diagrams, plans or parts lists for what we might need? Everything I've seen has been for yachts with pre-existing cold water systems, but we need to go from scratch.

Thanks!

Most of this page is about calorifiers http://coxengineering.sharepoint.com/Pages/Calorifier.aspx but there are a couple of diagrams showing layouts.

You can either go for a pressurised system or one with a centrifugal pump with microswitches in the taps. Motor caravans were often pressurised but now most seem to be the latter. I have recently installed a complete system in my motorsailer and went the microswitch route, which works out cheaper from a position of zero equipment. All the kit can be bought at caravan shops, with the usual savings over marine ones.

There is a 'half way house' solution using a pressure switch that fools the centrifugal pump into thinking it is a pressure one. Made by Whale and costs about £30. I have one on my transom shower, where it performs well. You can then use standard taps without microswitches.
