new greek tax

It seems that from 6th Jan 2006 a boat (presumably foreign flagged) kept in Greek waters for
more than six months will be liable to a tax varying from a minimum of
13,000 Euros up to 40% of the value of the boat.

can anybody confirm this

I have a boat down in Greece and not heard of this. If its true I think there may be a mass exodus of yachts from Greek waters!!
What is your source?

This probably relates to boats from outside the EEC. A similar rule already exists in this country (UK) and other EEC countries though I believe the period allowed is 12 months.
