Tony Cross has brought this to my attention.

This is a link to an Article on the new law going to be passed on Thursday.

Before you all panic - Private non Greek Yachts are not included in this register, BUT all professional boats Greek and non Greek MUST register - that of course includes Private and Unofficial Chartering.

This shows the determination to stamp out unofficial Chartering.

May be we will be included at some point. May be the Greek Privately owned yachts will no longer have to have a DEKPA as this will replace it? Will this mean the DEKPA goes - Its only there (according to Port Police) so that they can enforce the local Greek taxes on boats owned by Greeks.

It is worth adding that the e-register (the online registration of Greek flagged boats) was introduced in 2014 and has not yet been implemented (normal stuff). The amendment is to extend the e-register to professional boats of ANY flag. That amendment goes before parliament today and is almost certain to be voted through, but that doesn't mean anything will happen soon.

However, and as Chris says, the Greeks are very clearly tightening up on illegal charters - if you're doing this in Greece now then either stop or leave, they will catch up with you sooner or later and from what I've seen and heard they're not taking any prisoners. In addition, they are determined that Greeks with boats pay the appropriate taxes so there is already a close focus on boating in Greece and that's not likely to let-up any time soon.
