Previously I have known fairly accurately fuel consumption on my 55hp sailboat, 90hp evinrude petrol and more recently my 150hp Suzuki (great engine). Next engine will be a new 270hp mercruiser diesel with Bravo out drive this is the new Chrysler block rather than I think the older Volkswagen block. Mounted in a Qucksilver 905 weekend. I have looked for engine figures but few around.

Has anyone any experience or knows what I should expect fuel wise at say 2000rpm or 3,800rpm. Some may have experience on the Quicksilver 880 which is similar hull to the 905? Thanks.

I'm not sure that Chrysler has ever made a diesel of this size? Generally Chrysler cars have used VM, Mercedes, and latterly Fiat engines. Can you add more data on the engine please?

I may be wrong on the Chrysler block. I just know it is a new mercruiser 270hp.

Found some figures for this engine on the back of a 11m Pirelli RIB but not sure how relevant or accurate. I’ve seen figures of 1 mile a gallon to 2 miles a litre so confused.

Nigel

This is the same engine in a Northbank 750 HT , Loa 7.49, BOA 2.45 and 1650kg so not a million miles from your boat , they are getting 1.68 KM /L at 2500 RPM and topping out at 65KM/H , I am sure you can do the maths to L per Nm.

Don' t forget this is with a clean hull fouling on a planning boat will increase greatly fuel consumption per nm and decrease range.

Brim the tank, don't go below 20% and record date, NM and engine hours as well as hull cleans etc on a spreadsheet every time you fill the tank up and you will soon get a good ready reckoner.

It is actually Fiat Chrysler motor.

. It was Volkswagen’s call to cut the TDI engine’s supply line
Mercury’s VW-sourced 3.0-litre TDI V6 was offered in 230hp and 260hp inboard and sterndrive configurations. Mercury says these engines were excellent, but VW made the decision to stop offering to Mercury. The new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles-sourced V6 will come in 250hp and 270hp configurations.

Thanks Nigel. It will be a Fiat motor from the Fiat/Chrysler group. Now part of Stellantis with PSA/Opel.
