New fuel system?

My Perkins has electric fuel lift pump. I carry a spare. We have twin filters. We cary several spares. You need to clean your tank if it is suspect. Its on the list of winter jobs for me this year. KISS is always better

Properly cleaning a tank 5' deep down through a 14" hole isn't a guaranteed success. Then every clean after that means lifting out the engine.
KISS is a tank of clean diesel gravity fed into an engine 2 feet away.

The double filter you've shown in that link only works with both filters in circuit - you can't isolate one. However, if you do want to buy that type of filter, you'll find it much cheaper at SSL - http://www.ssldieselparts.co.uk/filter-assemblies-double-double-filter-assemblies-c-267_225_101.html

As mentioned, I used car filter holders, £15 each from a breakers, and taps, tube, etc from ASAP. You can get left/right/off taps, but simple on/off taps were so much cheaper that I went for 4 on/offs and a little more plumbing rather than 2 Y taps. Total cost (this was several years ago) of around £40.

Because switching filters is so simple, I haven't changed one since, saving at least the cost of the bits. The cartridges are starting to get a bit of rust on them now, so I think I'll do them this winter and they'll be good for another few years.

This job was provoked by an engine failure resulting in a rather stressful single handed entry under sail into Portsmouth, in a strong, but flukey wind, against the beginnings of the ebb in a boat not known for excecellent windward performance, assisted by a couple of large ferries going the other way. Now I can switch filters and restart the engine in a matter of seconds, of course, it's never happened since (touches wood)

Anyone worried about dirty fuel blocking filters should also invest in a vacuum gauge - this gives immediate indication if the filter starts to get blocked.
