New flag staff needed, slightly larger than the ones in the chandlers.

I need a new flag staff. The inclined socket is 47.5mm internal diameter and 107.5 mm depth at it's shallowest. About 6ft and teak would be nice. Any ideas where I could buy one or get one made?

I looked online and in the local chandlers and at the boat shows but haven't found anything large enough.

Sounds like a nice afternoon in the garage with some timber. Don't bother with teak, you need Douglas fir, or Ash. Easy to make one, really. Any good timber merchant should be able to supply the wood - but not the retail park monsters. As for the "how to", take the method for making spars and reduce sizing to suit. Job's a good'un!

I have some old teak door standards in the store but not the patience to make the flag staff, I'd rather buy one or pay someone to make one. If I tried it I would just make a mess of the timber.

it might have to be a broom handle painted in teak varnish if you need it for the weekend, or get one specially made but don't think you would be one before the start of the festival.

My local hardware shop ( NOT DIY shed) has excellent proper ash shafts for garden rakes hoes etc, which are over andinch in diameter and 6 ft long. Outrageously expensive at about £3, we attached a boat hook to the other end. Could attach a flag though?
