We went for a sail for a few hours at the weekend, taking my step dad and leaving the baby with my mum- ie everybody was happy. As usual, the moment you decide to take adavantage of the blue sky, it runs and hides, everything turns gray and the heavens open. I lent said gent my old oilies, which he duly donned. Five minutes later I turned round to talk to him and had a vision of fashion. Step dad sitting there with the collar of his jacket up around his ears and the collar pulled inside out over his head, the large dayglo hood was flapping around behind him. He was not trying to be funny. try it next time you're out. Grab the back of your collar ( hood has to be unfolded) and pull it inside out over your head- it fits!!! Look similar to those drunken games involving putting condoms on heads.

BTW- the new genoa was beyond my expectations- I've never had a new sail before.

Tell me more please, I have to order one soon and our respective yacht designs are not that far apart.

Cloth, cut, loft, sq ft, roller?

Jonjo,
Seeing your location, have a word with, or pop down and see, Gowens at West Mersea. They're making a new genoa for me and adapting an older sail too. Not only that but they give extrememly good advice, are very price competitive and currently have a sale on (no pun intended).
Speak to Colin or Doug and mention my name (brownie point &c.)

I'll get all the details at lunchtime and let you know. Sail is a tri radial cut furling genoa made by Kemps in a cruising laminate. The boat felt really powered up, and even in 22 knots of wind we kept full rig. Before, we were getting loads of weather helm and very heavy loading on the steering. I never believed that a new genoa could reduce weather helm so much. Upwind performance was very different and in the groove- I had a massive smile on my face despite the pouring rain and freezing wind.

Regards

Alex
