Speaking to the MCA and the SSR people yesterday they said that small ships on the register must fly the Red Ensign and it must be the correct size for the vessel. Warrants for other colours or defaced ensigns must be carried on board.

The size chart will be published today on the MCA website.

What next I wonder

cheers

double yellow lines, Speed cameras and compulsory flying of cone to inform mr average that the boat heading towards him at 6knts in a flat calm with a mainsail up is in fact "motor-sailing"

I'm just surprised that you didn't share this with us yesterday. You must have had a dreadful nights sleep worrying about it without the support of other Scuttlebutters. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I think the pain in the arse bit of the new SSR regs is having to have your SSR number on the sails as well as on the coachroof.

its OK if your having new sails but a pain having to take the old ones into the sailmaker for it. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

graffitti them on with an aerosol can, could get prizes for the best design /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You must be right. They are probably introducing these new regulations now as it is the start of the season. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You may well laugh but a few years ago a vessel who was part of the same cruise stood onto us on port, while we were on starboard with just the main up, on the basis that we could not have been going that fast unless we had the engine on - which it wasn't and I had to call an emergency tack to the(blind) helmsman. We missed them by about 1 foot and they continued to crowd us.

Methinks we should all be issued with a couple of Milans so we could bring down dire prognostications upon these errant mariners.

I off course never ake many mistooks.

do you think having the SSR number Tattoed on my ar$e would satisfy the regs.

Ive got nothing against the French just bureaucracy in any language gets under my skin.
