Hi
Does anyone have experience or knowledge of replacing the Yanmar YSE8 engine currently fitted to our Hustler 25.5 with a larger say 12hp unit?

Thanks Chris

Is that the one with the horizontal cylinder? If so you might get away with a straight replacement of a GM10. Depends on the height above the bearers.

Hi Donald

Yes it is the horizontal cylinder, however the amount of space between the top of the engine & underside of cockpit floor is very limited.

Re: Nostalgia

Hi
Ours is also bright red called Miura She has just taken us to Holland for 4 weeks sailing, which went very well, but we do need a bit more power against a foul tide and no wind.

I managed to replace a YSM12 with a 2GM20F although space was very tight heightwise. I didn't have any problem with the width or depth, but was able to use existing bearers.

Talk to local Yanmar agent re replacement engine sizes.

Maybe other posters could recommend a suitable replacement engine from another manufacturer?

My 25.5 has a 1GM10 which fits a treat with easy access for maintenance. The 2GM20 is only longer I believe and there would be plenty of space to accomodate.
Mine has the 2.62 gearbox ratio which needs a 13" prop but there isn't sufficient hull clearance for more than a 12". Check out the required gearbox ratio before you commit to any engine.
Nevertheless it pootles along quite happily at 6 knots with a clean bottom which is about the most you can expect.
