Have finished the (DIY) installation of my new Beta 25 engine. Ran it for the first time yesterday, it started first time and sounds sweet!

Would like to record my thanks to Beta Marine they were extremely helpful and cheerfully answered my questions during installation.

It is nice to deal with a British Company who produce a good product, at a good price and provide good service.

when do the Japanese get some credit for a fine engine ;)

I dont know exactly where your new engine is in relation to the waterline, but if it is near or below the waterline, make absolutely sure that your antisiphon valve is fitted and works.
I had a beta 35 fitted, by a Beta agent, who unfortunately cut through the old polyethene pipework, resulting in blockage of the antisiphon valve, resulting in water in the sump and the failure of the injection pump.

There isa simple test and very well worth while. Disconnect the pipe which discharges into the exhaust elbow at the back of the engine and tie it loose at the same height.
Switch on the main seawter stopcock, and leave for 30 minutes. If the pipe is dripping the antisiphon valve is not working.

A quick check which costs nothing, and solves the problem of having a new injector pump fitted! God luck with the engine

Beta Marine are

a good example of a traditional British company; small enough to care, large enough to have some resource.

Their last MD is a boater - so sympathetic to boating needs and have some excellent engineers.

They are happy to do you a "special" if needed - obviously would prefer folks to buy from their range, which includes mounting feet for some competitive original engines. If you have particular requirements; for example moving a sump pump or oil filter - then they'll do it.

I've seen them grow over the years and happy to recommend them.

The online documentation is good - but are always happy to talk to you - but you may have to wait awhile.

(Sorry, somewhat effusive, but good service and sound principals (sic) deserve recommendation.

Thanks for advice! I have fitted a new anti-syphon valve, water trap and high rise exhaust.
