Hi All

I hope today/tomorrow that the old boat will be fully fitted with a new Nanni Diesel 4.150 HE (dont ask me I am mechanically challenged) Any how, two parts to this question - has anyone any experience of this engine, the manufacturers web site has little info and I have not got my hands on the manual yet. Second part is that I have a 4 way Electrolux Fridge. Now I have finally gone Diesel and away from being the equivilant of a fuel barge with my green cans can I revert to using Gas to power the fridge. Is it more efficient than battery? and without trawling through the BSC manuals am I allowed to run it on Gas now I am less explosive.
Thanks

Iuse a gas fridge and have been very happy with it. one of these used on 12v is very inefficient, so converting to gas (if allowed presumably means that you are operating on inland waterways.)would be a good move!

An absorption cycle fridge is significantly less efficient than a compressor type regardless of whether you heat the former using gas or electricity. The big advantage of gas over battery is that a gas bottle can store much more energy than a battery, but there's little to choose on efficiency. Running it on electricity should in fact be more efficient than running on gas since there should be no flue loss but, because a multi fuel fridge has to have a flue for operation on gas, in practice some heat is lost out the flue even running on electric.

Gas on board always makes me nervous - I turn it on to make a cup of tea, and turn it off again when finished.

We have a gas fridge on board, but never used it (I don't think it's even connected). Will replace it with a decent 12v compressor fridge when i can afford one.

Steve
