New Customer Charter 2010

" anything 'not to like' ?"

Spect Apollo will be along in a minute and we will find out :)

Might go to off the Maidstone Sat night but will have to check river flows, judging from rubbish ib the way of reeds tree branches and general junk going past boat at moment lots of flood water up there, normally takes about 24 hours to clear.

Seems fair 'nuff to me

To my mind it's better to have a statement as a guide rather than nothing at all.

I have some comments:-

Para 3.8 - Trees "work with landowners..."
This could be a cop-out; an excuse to do nothing - "well the landowners object (etc) so we can't do anything" or the other excuse, well it's not within a gnat's whisker of the centre of the channel - so we won't do anything at all.

4.7 Lock opening hours
We've lost 1/2 an hour on April and May 17:00 and 18:00 instead of the extra half hour. Not terribly important as all are electrocuted (!) now, but it's amazing to find how many Thames boaters (can forgive visitors) seem to be enraged by not being attended, and incapable of reading instructions and pushing buttons.

EXCEPT for Culham where I understand it takes half an hour to operate when on "Public". Ouch!

10.2 Commendations
EA will pass on good comments to the person concern (not quite sure where we're supposed to make commendations, though.

Perhaps I've beaten Apollo to it, but moderation in all things...

On the EA website there is a page of stuff re the Thames:
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/recreation/boating/31543.aspx

The second item down is a link to a new River Thames Customer Charter which defines the levels of service the EA will endeavour to provide.

No - this is NOT an April Fools joke !

Not worth a lot really if the organisation that writes it is the same organisation that is supposed to keep to it.

Next year they could just cut half the promises out without by or leave (as they already appear to have done since the guidelines that were in place when they inherited from NRA)

Kind of need a monitoring organisation like OFWAT is to water companies, perhaps OFEA? (or OFTWAT?)

b.t.w. Haven't seen any BCC boats go past yet....

"The fitting out cruise was cancelled due to the number of yellow & red boards on display!"

Some of our lot (RCC)were sposed to have been going round to West Dock this weekend, doubt if they went?
Popped out for a quick spin downriver today and Garrison Point(Sheerness) were giving SW 20-33 knots !
