I've got a new 6 man canister liferaft and Stainless Steel Tube holder.

The strap of the holder goes around the liferaft in 2 parts, and is secured with a lever that goes over a "thing" which has a hole in it for a padlock in port, and a pin of some kind at sea.

What do people use for a pin, so that it is easy to remove in order to launch the raft, but "impossible" to knock out accidentally?

I use a s/s spit pin, opened to a 'V' so it doesnt fall out. On the end of the pin I have a s/s ring and small rope toggle. Its easy enough to pull the pin out but will never fall out on its own

The pin from an old hand grenade worked fine for many years till it was lost overboard by a curious neophyte. Now just nip to swindlers and pick up a pin, cant remember the exact name, shaped like a hair grip.

I use a odd offcut of line which is a good fit through the hole and about 12" long pulled half way through. My thought bring that in the event of an emergency it doesn't mater which end you pull and it would be easy to get hold of with gloved hands.

Of course I always hope I never have to find out if it works.

I use the top one in the pic available from protex
