Mr aitch,
I work from home and sometimes get a little time to stick my nose in and give my 2 pence worth, when someone asks for advice, just as you have.
I therefore e-mailed Sealine, as I suspect you already have, to ask them their opinion and recommendations. This was their reply.

We fit the Volvo unit as standard , there is an upgrade , the BP800 , which is horizontally mounted , this is a 7hp unit.

I hope this helps.

Yup, 6.5hp will be plenty.

Is your old one working ok? We had a 4.5hp on a fairline phantom 42 a few years ago. It worked fine, easily enough grunt. So is there something wrong with yours?

Sealine's 7hp upgrade sounds big. We now have an 11hp in a 58foot flybridge and that has plenty of grunt, so 7hp in a 43 foot should be loads

Also check if your cables will be big enough to handle more than 1.5x the current they handle right now.
