Hi, I've just purchased my first boat and quite excited. It was purchased at the boat show and is new but as a novice I just wanted to enquire as to what boat commissioning is as I've been charged 3.6k and now looking at things further am not sure what this covers. Boat purchased was 70k. Thanks and apologies if this is a silly question

The boat will come from the factory wrapped in plastic.
Roof fittings and rails likely off
Anchor and chain off
Engine notvyet commissioned
If outboard likely not mounted

Commissioning is taking the transport wrap off
Installing the bits that we’re remkved from transport
Filling, testing and checking the engine (or fitting the outboard)
Checking the systems
Sea trial prior to delivery to ensure everything working
Checking all other systems (water, leccy, waste)

It’s part of buying a boat. Not an optional thing at all

That surprises me! If i was buying new I would expect the price asked is the price i would pay, no extra. If i buy a new car I don't expect to pay for them to unwrap it and charge me for fitting the steering wheel.

Well they could just up the price by the same amount, or list it seperateky.

Actually with a new car you do pay a delivery charge which also includes the cost to pdi and is usually £300-600 and will be listed seperateky on the invoice.

I suspect they do it because of vat or tax. Anyway, you have to pay it one way or another

It was all bundled up in the cost but now when I go through it I can't help but check that I'm getting a good deal. Bad habit I know. Thanks @whitelighter took your earlier advice and plunged for a cap camarat on a previous post I made

Yeah. Did look 2nd hand and all if not most in France. Got carried away and went new. As a novice I hope to benefit from warranties should any problems arise

Happens to all of us lol
New boat though is nice and easy fir you, plus new tech engine will fuel efficient and cheaper to service.
What I would say is go over the boat carefully when she is delivered and over the next few days use her and get any snagging list over to the dealer ASAP, and also set out time limits on getting stuff sorted. Hopefully will only be little boggles but it’s important to set out when you expect them resolved

Thank you. Can I expect a few snags then? Didn't realise that

There are usually a couple of little things but in 99% of times it’s nothing very major.
I have bought two new boats and both were very good out if the box with some very minor little things that were very quickly fixed.

I perhaps shouldn’t have mentioned it - I didn’t mean to take the shine off anything.
It highly likely you won’t experience anything wrong, but if you do get a resolution agreed proptly
