Well actually it's 11 years older than my present boat but in wonderful nick - A Fjord 33. (To be named "Tuskar" after the first land fall in Ireland - the name of which is of Viking origin)

I visited it in Italy last week and had an outing on it. It belongs to an elderly gentleman who uses it 2 or 3 times per year to go to the next bay for fishing and swimming. He put a new 42 hp Mitsubishi diesel in it 6 years ago and it has only 112 hours on it. It has a Hood Stoway boom and an Autohelm 7000 plus push button anchoring from the helm. He employs somebody to keep it in tip top condition and according to the broker it is out of the water every year for anti-fouling.

He has also agreed to defer the deal until I sell my own.

Draw backs :

1) it is currently certificated for sailing only within 20 miles of the coast. I would need unlimited certification.
2) it has hydraulic steering which reduces feel and is quite demultiplied.

The price is approximately half compared with examples which I have seen in N. Europe.

Does anybody have a Fjord 33 with unlimited certification? I would like some precedents before entering discussions with the authorities? If I can get the Italian rating bureau (RINA) to accept, would this hold good in other countries?

Anybody interested in sailing with me back to Brittany?

Anybody interested in a Feeling 9m20...?? ;-))

Hi John
What nationality are you and what are the rules there - where you live.
In the uk, you just need to register it, get an icc if out of the uk, pref part 1...
And then sail.
Dont know the rules in other countries though, usually it is better to register in your own country if possible.
Lots of people rcd boats to cat d or c if importing, then use them where they want, saves hassle.
Again though, not sure about country specific rules.

Irish/British living in France.

The Italian Coast Guard authorities to whom I spoke said they would reclassify the boat provided that the RINA (the Italian version of Bureau Veritas) would give their OK and they thought it was probably more of a question of equipment than anything structural.

However I suspect the French would hesitate at - insufficient height of bridge deck, inward opening companion way doors and absence of manual bilge pumps (all of which I would correct before leaving).

Wishing you good luck with this one, sounds a peach.
With the obvious cost savings you can always change the steering..
