Hi

We are going to Cornwall very soon camping and towing a 4meter rib and would like to know if anybody knows of a campsite near to falmouth or Helford River that has a slip. Also does anybody know the name of a publication that details loactions for slips around the UK

Thanks very much

Gary

It\'s a trap !!

Set for iMac and iBoook users by Brendan (and Mr Gates). www.boatlaunch.co.uk 'freezes' the Macintosh operating system. Only way to get out is by 'powering off by removing battery'!!!. Never had that one before.

Serves me right for being nosy!!

Would appear to be interactive map problems.... can someone suggest to the site owners that the warning would be better on the home page? Bit late after you've clicked on to it !!

Re: It\'s a trap !!

If you're running MacOS-X and can use Safari (Apple's web browser) - then it does seem to work okay. You'll have to turn off the 'Block pop-ups' though, as it uses that to show the info on the marina you select.

It did narf-up when I used tried to use IE (though it didn't lock the machine, fortunately!).

Re: new boat where do I go

I live in Falmouth and for such a fantastic boating area there are relatively few slips and I can't think of a campsite that has their own. However Grove Place is the main slip for the town and that has a number of visitor berths where you could leave the boat on the trailer while you are down here. They charge £61/week which includes all launches/recovery - the website is http://www.falmouthport.co.uk. It's a very good slip, useable at all states of tide but the only problem is that you then have to find somewhere to park your car after you've launched the boat which isn't always easy at this time of year. Another option would be Mylor Yacht Harbour which is very nice and you could probably either leave the boat on the trailer and launch it daily or book a pontoon berth for the week. Loe Beach is (as the name would suggest!) a beach near Feock from which you can launch and recover; it is quite a tortuous route down to it though - particularly if, as the boat is new, you are not yet too confident when towing! Truro now has a slip as well but when you get out of Carrick Roads and up the river it can be quite a long (although very attractive) journey out to open water. I can't think of any more at the moment but feel free to pm me if I can be of any further help.
