I'm looking for members for a new boat share scheme that provides hassle-free boating for a modest deposit and fixed monthly fee. I'm setting up this scheme to start in April which allows up to 6 users around 50 days minimum access to a 35-40ft motor cruiser based in Southampton. Interested? Then please drop me an email for more details.

No need for this to be secret - please can you put the detials on here please? Financials? Model of boat? Details on how days are allocated? Basic legals, like does each sharer own some shares in the boat directly or does your company/you actally own the boat?.

You might as well type all that lot once here, becuase everyone will ask these questions (at least!)

Thanks

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm currently negotiating the lease of a boat with a large UK boatyard so unfortunately I'm not in a position to divulge costs as yet. Suffice to say that I intend to offer more cruising days, for less money than similar company-backed schemes operating in the Solent area. Members will not have shares in the vessel as this will remain the property of the boatyard. My reason for posting on the forum was to gauge interest. Ref Cowes week, members will have to book the boat for that week on a first come-first served basis. MK

Mark, people will in this market be concerned about their credit exposure on the deposit. If the boatyard goes bankrupt, the deposit element is lost. That's ok if the deposit is tiny, but not otherwise

I don't think your post will last long anyway, it's just an advert, so will be removed. If you'd asked for advice on which boat, where to keep it, how to advertise it etc. then that would be different.

Mark, the convention on this forum is that blatant commercial advertising is frowned upon. On the other hand, nobody minds a bit of surreptitious marketing providing you contribute to the forum generally

That is what Sailtime do now.

Started with some sailboats and have a couple of Bavs' now. Think they also have a Sealine f34 too

£500/m + fuel all up sort of money.

Nice booking system too as you get free use when others are not using their time on short notice 'lets'

I can't imagine "hassle-free" boating! What's the point of that?

Certainly a new concept /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My scheme will pretty much echo the model used by other boat share schemes (i.e. Sailtime and Pure Lattitude). Members pay for the use of the boat, not for the boat. MK

Thanks all for your comments, I'm new on this forum and this boat share scheme is a new project for which I'm looking for feedback from the forum, rather than looking specifically for scheme members. My business plan is well thought out and costed, and I'm waiting for a vessel to be made available from a major UK boatyard. I hope to advertise in MBM and MBY when I'm ready to launch.

So 6 people get 50 days each thats 300 days .. Who gets the other 65 .. Seems like a good way of getting your own boating for free .. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Whatever happened to all the previous share a boat schemes? Big Fish (I think they were called), Ownaship, etc etc.

They all seem to crop up with a flurry of advertising and then go quiet.

Are they still going but have full membership so no need to advertise or have they all fallen by the wayside?

The remaining 65 days will be usage by myself as the scheme owner (I like boating too), and a month downtime over winter for maintenance.

That's a fair point ari, I guess some schemes have worked whereas others haven't. The involvement of a large boatyard that has lots of stock boats lying around, means I don't have the capital cost of the vessel. This means I can offer a nice boat for more days sailing, for less money. The deposit should only be a few hundred pounds (to cover the insurance excess and prangs). MK

Stop being so coy Mark, because it might well work, and I'd suggest some serious figures are put out there - I for one might be interested if the prices were right and I am sure others would too - and I wouldn't want Cowes week for sure so do I get a discount!?
