seek the opinion of forumites regarding a Sea trial for my new S29 due to be handed over 14th April /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I hope i am wrong.........but so far the dealer is looking reticent at allowing me a sea trial when the boat is handed over.
its being delivered to a dealer on inland waterway with tidal stretch of river not far away.
my schedule:
Hand over 14th.
Move from Lincoln to Hull via tidal Trent 21st.
Hull to Kings Lynn/Denver 29th.
they are suggesting a "local" trial on hand over with a sea trial a week later as part of my passage plan to move the boat to my own mooring . i am not shouting too loud at the moment as the person proposed to do the leg from Lincoln to Hull will have al ot of local knowledge which is very useful for the tidal Trent.
i seek the opinion of those here with greater knowledge on these matters than myself.

Which bit of the trip from Lincoln to King's Lynn via Hull are they/you proposing as the sea-trial ? Presumably not the Trent section.
Would they be more amenable to doing it in the Wash if you were to go the direct route via Boston ? It could then take place nearer to the date/place of handover - which may or may not be the reason for their reticence.

Spoke to them again and it seems my wishes will be granted.
short test on tidal trent then accompanied to Hull with someone who has good local experience.

A sea trial is essential. Allow at least half a day. I would also insist on inspecting the boat prior to launch. Inspect the drives, antifoul etc. Check the oil level in the drives. If you have a problem later there is no satisfaction claiming on the warranty when you are without a boat.

This also shows the dealer how thorough you are. I also found Sealine putting an extra coat of antifoul on as they knew I would be checking the factory coat. Hopefully your boat will be in the water for the next 12 months.

Check every fitting, cupboard door, instrument etc before taking delivery and more importantly handing over your money. I think Sealines are excellent but they are not like cars. They are extremely complex and assembled by humans. Make sure everything is done to your satisfaction.

I took delivery with one or two minor snags and it has taken them almost 4 months to correct. In hindsight I should have insisted on them before delivery but they were only minor.

Doesn't sound too excellent. My last Fairline was delivered in first class condition with everything working. I do admit to later problems with the Simrad Chartplotter but this was fixed within 24 hours.

I know boats are assembled by hand but there is still no excuse for faults which should have been picked up on PDI and corrected before you took delivery. If you can spot them than so should the dealer. or the manufacturer. I know Sealine in Brixham don' t seem to perform any detailed PDI checks at all from comments I have heard from several new owners.
