Hi guys.
Go easy on me. I'm very new to boating. bought a cheapy little ski boat a few months ago to see if boating is for me and see if it got used. Well ive definitely got the bug!

Theres a little bit of damage on my prop and i want to replace it. Problem is i dont know what size or pitch. i removed the current prop and cant see any pitch markings.

The engine is a ( early 80's?) 60hp Yamaha 2 stroke.

Thanks James

Hi James

No doubt someone here will be able to help out who knows about props, in the meantime may be worth looking for some propeller manufacturers online who can tell you how to measure them. Or if they are local to you take them along to them. I recently had some props refurbished by http://www.mmp-i.com/ they have an office in Newton Abbot I believe.

Thanks for the info already. I will take the prop off again and have another look. That steel developments website certainly looks helpful. I will contact them for a rough price. Thanks

Hi
Hate to be a bore, but one of the few things I know a fair bit about...for my sins.
Firstly I’ll say that it’s a complete black art to prop a boat perfectly. Some would say impossible...but generally there are a few guide lines to set you up close.
What you need are;

The rev range of the engine (likely something like 5000-5500 in your case. Please check)
The rpm achieved with current prop
The gps speed achieved with current prop when well trimmed and under normal conditions
Your gear ratio
What you want the boat for. Acceleration for water sports or too speed. Perhaps somewhere in between.

Failing all that. If the boat runs well enough with current prop and is within the rpm range (most important thing) then replace like for like (unless current prop is seriously compromised). You will usually find the details on hub in between the blades or sometimes behind the nut and washer that hold the prop on. Depending on maker. Will read something like 12x15 12x17 or similar I’d think in your case.
