I thought the list of new boats in UK LAST month was great.

But now its appeared in this months mag too.

Does this mean we are going to get the SAME info every month which seems to take up half the editorial content now?

Once a year maybe or even every six months, but every month is a tad unecessary methinks!

You've got it. Its a cheap page filler to pad out the meagre editorial content. Mind you, MBY are doing something similar as well although at least there's plenty else to read

T'is probably a new revenue stream for them as they can probably get the manufacturers to start to advertise with them in that section - similar to the car mags. Just wish they keep it up to date as one of the manufacturers is offering diesel now on their small boats and looks as if they have reprinted from last month.

If they did it quarterly, it would allow them time to update their database - as with What Car? magazine we compile their Target Price up to 2 months in advance - MBM may have a similar time scale involved?

Yes, I thought I'd got last months mag delivered in error, not much of interest in MBM this month although MBY was a good read.

They also have missed Storeboro (sp?) off their list of boats, rather strange as I think they reviewed one of their new models last year. Some of the other manufacturers I've never heard of and no doubt many of them won't be around in a few years time.

I thought the write up on the 21ft test was good. A lot of people start their boating off that way as I have done. Now if they can do one on the 24ft-26ft range that would be of real interest for people wanting to move up.

Keep up the good work.

i was looking for the boats listed in the mag at the boat show. the ones that were 7-8m long and 12m wide. Perhaps they just didnt fit on the pontoons!

Some answers

The pages occupied by the Motor Boats Monthly boat buyers guide are extra pages to the existing pagination and so you are not losing any content.

As I understand it, it will be a rolling programme every month. The data will be updated on a monthly basis.

I know a little bit about this because my web team have been responsible for building the back-end database for this (MBM populated the data, a big task) and I constructed the interface that automatically rolls it out into published pages. The way we have built it will allow for different lengths of boats to be targeted in different months, if desired by the editorial team (there are already a total of 600 boats in the database) and we can also generate other kinds of results from the database in the future, including online searches if so desired, boat by price lists and so on.

I'm not sure what Hugo (the editor) has planned yet but it is a major new tool in MBM's armoury that I am sure you will see being used in a variety of ways.
