New boat - handing over the cash

Re: but in january it\'s an OLD boat?

Not sure how the UK builders plate their boats but we run September to september so a boat delivered after 1 st spetember this year will be have an 07 HIN (07 model year)

Can't comment on your dealer and how they operate however not all dealers operate this way.

We request a 25% deposit for a new build however you are named on our insurance policy for that particular hull should anything happen between now and the completed boat. Once the boat is completed you pay the balance before it leaves the yard however you take title of the boat at that moment through bill of sale and CE documents, you can also by prior arrangement vist the yard and see your boat in build (normally near the final finishing). You may also appoint your own surveyor to visit the yard and inspect the boat before paymet. Our customers also hold back £10,000 untill after the PDI and handover in the UK, however the final £10k is due immediately on signing acceptance of the boat.

Hope this helps.

Re: but in january it\'s an OLD boat?

Hm well maybe. There's other things such as ships have registration date docs based on when keel laid.

But in the opinion of most ordinary mortals, the registration doc shows the "age". And that's the date when it is supplied.

Or put another way, if a dealer has a boat with reg docs that say "2003" then even if the hull says "02" it'll still be sold as a 2003 and i spose half of all bigger boats (which 6 months to build) of one year will have HIN of previous year, no?

Re: but in january it\'s an OLD boat?

Fair comment but on smaller stuff the build is about a month, dealers (or customers) don't want to order a boat in September boat delivered in November/december, four weeks of current year and then its last seasons boat so we hold stock ordered in sept, delivered nov/dec and release in Jan for 07 reg and sale.

Not sure its such an issue with big stuff as you say can takes 6 months or year to build so most people recognise if they follow lloyds and its date of keel laid then its a year later before boat is launched and commissioned so really its following year as the value date not the date of commencement of build.

then insist he gives you title on the boat

Good idea but the dealer won't own title to the boat until he pays the builder for it and he's going to delay doing that until the last moment

Example I handed over full payment in 04 for a new Italian made motorboat to a UK distributor [345000 euros ]I am still waiting for a part to be fitted
