I live in Ventura, CA and my new boat will be stored in Channel Islands Harbor. I am looking a a few different models currently but I am stuck on what to buy. I'll list them in order of what I like most;

Four Winns 248 (maybe 26)
Regal 2465
Sea Ray 24 Sundancer
Maxum 2500 SC
Bayliner 248 Classic Cruiser (kind of like this because of the large windows, but it has really cheap components)

I am on a budget of about 36k (used) so I'll problally be looking at a 2000 or 2001. I have been sailing with friends of large (37' Hunter) and small sail boats for many years, but still consider myself a novice at 20. I will be using the boat for crusing of the coast of Ventura and Santa Barbara which can have some really rough waters through out the year. I will be using it to hang out on the weekends with friends and travel to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands so I will want something to be very sea worthy and be able to stay in salt water for 365 days a year. Thanks!

Channel Islands to Santa Cruz Island in a small sportsboat? 7000 miles is quite a long way for a day out! Will you be going via the Suez canal or the Panama canal? Make sure you turn the right way out of St Helier and take some jerry cans with you! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I like the sea ray its a good mid quality boat with huge demand over there and reasonable sea keeping. Regal sporty image good build but comparitively i think they lack room. Four Winns I dont know about Maxum and bayliner great boats built to cost, sea keeping so so IMHO

Like you say the conditions over there can be really rough at times have you thought about an older Formula cruiser? will out live all of us and sea handling second to none, in that price range may be able to get a 26 or 29PC that has been repowered, Im sure you will already know this but boattraderonline.com is a great source I find for boats in the USA.

hope you find what you want

Well, if you're going to post to a British forum and talk about the Channel Islands, you should at least have the courtesy to mention that they are not the real CI! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
