im in the process of buying our first boat we had set a budget price of around £15k for a 4 berth cruiser that we can use for light sea and rivers after a year or so in the local canal,

we have looked at a fjord 27ft 5 berth diesel cruiser in fair condition but i need a few answers.

we have agreed a price with the seller of £10k does this sound a fair price?. (the canopy has been replaced last year and all soft furnishings have been covered the boat is dry but seemingly no safety cert is required where its used.

we have been told its a 1979 model but does this matter at this age (as it could be older)

the gel coat is cream looking with age, should the shine and colour buff back up to new or am i dreaming?

does any one know of any faults known to this make or model (selco selcruiser 27)

any help or pictures for this model would be great, also does any one know of model details ie years produced etc

Have a look here and here this may help you to compare the price of the boat you are purchasing.

Some gelcoats are cream btw.

Hope this helps /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Welcome to the Madhouse!
Decent boats imho.( Fjord,s)
Be best with a diesel lump in it.
Price doesn,t sound daft but depends on condition.
If you are in doubt, it might be as well to have a proffesional boat surveyor take a look see.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! With a boat of this age I would echo Kawasaki's comments and would go further by saying I would ALWAYS have a surveyor's report undertaken - it could save you an awful lot of money in the long run, especially if you are new to the boating game. I don't know much about the particular boat you mention but have heard good things about the build quality.
Good luck - hope it all goes well!

i must firstly thank everyone for there fast replys, the boat i am looking at has the volvo penta diesel inboard, i have checked the inside of the hull for signs of damage but as its berthed just now i cant check the exterior the boat has been used by a family with very young children for the past three years and was checked then by the new owner (now the seller who is upgrading ) he antifouled the hull at that point, all the boat seems to need is a good clean and polish although we will replace some of the internal decor etc the boat is bone dry inside all cabin areas.

I have owned two of these in the past, one single engine, one twin engine, sold them both for £8-9K.

What the name of this one?

normally you would agree a price subject to trial and survey; you are still likely to be expected to notice obvious details yourself. The survey is to check more structural aspects, and the (sea) trial to test what cant be tested other way (ie the props dont fall off, or the engines dont reach expected revs etc). But in making the offer you are now commited to purchase barring any unforseen problems (that you could have noticed in looking her over). So its not like buying a house or car.But you CAN buy without all this, the seller normally being prepared to accept a lower price as he doesnt have any risks. Maybe just clarify all round quite what your offer meant ?
