I'm now the proud owner of a Dufour 35 of the 1978 vintage!

I sat last night hmming and haaing about making the payment, it's a lot of money in my world and it was hard to pull the trigger. it's going to be my home for the foreseeable future so doubly so.

now I need to move her from Carrickfergus to Coleraine before I make the move up to Derry/Londonderry/stroke city.

was thinking about this Tuesday as I'm off all week and the tides and weather look ok.

anyone got any tips/congratulations for me? :-)

apologies for the quality of the post, I'm on my phone.

Best of luck with the new boat Causeway. That passage is one of my favourites. Fantastic scenery....

Say "how's about ya" to The Giants for me.
You get turbo charged speed over the gound if you work with the tides. Take the tide around The Gobbins passing between the Hunter buoy and The Maidens on way up to Red Bay - drop the hook there and get some sleep. (Watch out for ferries charging in and out of Larne if the vis is bad- normally driving rain :) )
If weather goes onshore then hide in Glenarm Marina. Take next tide round through Rathlin Sound. Once you pass The Skerries the tide is fairly slack.
Safe pasage.

A lot more space, Health to enjoy.

yes I figured someone would work that out pretty quick. not many of them in carrick!

wouldn't call her a pretty boat, but it suits my means and purposes. besides! it's got an electric toilet!

that sold it to me :-P

I will make sure to take some pictures of the (very likely) chilly return trip.

going to have a few beers with accomplices tonight and plan the route. I think we might go to Rathlin as we know a couple of people up that way. like you say Robin, glenarm if we have any trouble.

I'm sorry v1701 for turning redcoat but you knew I was looking for something bigger! might go a bit further in this one too.

That is a handsome and purposeful looking boat Sir, I think I prefer that to the more modern Dufours.
An electric toilet - Not so sure about that, sounds risky. I hope it has a rubber seat - the consequences of a short circuit don't bear thinking about. Could end in a back fire or even a terrible fire ball:)

well, got the boat back yesterday. took 14hrs non-stop, left at 6am and said f-it to the tides. no real dramas but the main sheet traveler car broke.

never dropped below 6.5kn the whole time and we were getting up to 10.5kn round fair head!

f5 to begin with but it dropped to nothing after we passed Rathlin. overfalls were interesting as I've never gone over them before

Haven't seen one of those before, she certainly looks purposeful & I bet it's luxury in there. Much prefer the aesthetics of the 70's & 80's boats to their contemporaries...

Hi causeway

We also have elderly D35 (1973) if you would like discussion / information / help / advice send me a pm and I'll let you have my email address.
We may be in Ireland later this year ..... if the weather isn't too bad!

I have to say i love this boat! If you have made any interesting mods let me know. If you come round my way this year then call in and we can compare notes.

Do you find that it sails pretty flat? When do you usually put a reef in? I'm trying to work out how the high freeboard affects her characteristics
