For some time now Berthon in Lymington has been renowned for the best shower facilities on the Solent. However the new ones just opened at Deacons Boatyard are making a spirited challenge. I thought we were at the low-rent end of the River but having sampled most of the marinas in the area I can safely say that Deacons now surpasses anything I have seen in the central Solent and on the Hamble.:)

Only on a British forum could we get a thread like this...I reckon the loos at Weymouth marina are pretty good, a whole room to oneself, but they shot themselves in the foot by placing them on the first floor with a nasty metal spiral staircase; I wondered what disabled sailors are supposed to do ?

A thread on the worst loos around would probably be far more entertaining and a kick in the transom for the proprietors...

Why limit it to The Solent? The new facilities at QAB Plymouth are superb. Certainly Five Star.

The worse must now be at the Folly, they have been going down hill for years, but I think they have reached there limit, there can't get any worse, or can there?

Emsworth Marinas' loos / showers - at the office or in the portakabin style blocks - are adequate but not really what one would hope for in the 21st Century with prices to match.

At Bucklers Hard - when I used to go there until harbour staff jumped into the cockpit and tried to open the main hatch to demand money which I'd already paid - there was always a grey area over whether people on the visitors trot moorings were entitled to use the loos & showers at the marina, which were nothing special anyway.

I was told 'fine help yourself' or 'verboten' on different occasions, so I'd vote those as the worst, apparently it's not only bears expected to do it in the woods !

Yarmouth are still good though you do pay extra (£1.30) for 6 minutes of hot water. Weymouth HM new ones looked good but having to push a button every 30 seconds to restart the dribble from the shower is a pain and they had a lack of hooks / trays.

I have a short piece of line on my wash-bag (often handy for hanging it up). On many push-button showers (where the plumbing isn't built into the wall) this can be hitched around the back of the pipe to hold the button in.

I also used to have one of those sucker-like universal sink plugs, for basins without their own, but must have left it somewhere.

The Premier updates wouldn't look out of place in a Marriott. Daren't let my wife get near them because she would complain we need updating (again) at home.

Puerto Solente is now pretty good.

You don't get the fancy frosted glass, but you do get reasonably well-kitted out individual bathrooms and Puccini playing in the background. The unisex thing is a bit weird, though.
