Hi to all
I have had problems starting my engine which appears to be down to a dead battery (7 yrs old) It has been jump started with another battery and run for 1 Hr switched off tried again and wont start.

The boat is a Merry Fisher 805 and the battery looks very french (long and narrow) no size indicated.

Can anyone hlp me with advice on size req. and sourcing new one I am berthed down in Poole and cant really wait for internet del. Need to get out and enjoy the sun.
Many thanks

If it's the original battery it will be a 140ah one. They fitted them at the factory and although most were subsequently fitted with twin batteries, the 140ah one usually got left on the engine. When we bought ours i swapped them around, fitting a brand new 110ah to the engine. The 140ah has since died and been replaced with another 110ah.

We've found 110ah to be more than enough for starting the engine and the 110ah domestic battery has also never gone flat.

Thanks Paul you are a mind of information.
I have read many of your threads, partticularly about water in the Bilge !

Do you know if this boat as an MF 805 has an automatic bilge pump as our pump comes on when you press the switch in both directions?
Thanks again

Ours just had a "manual" electric pump with an on/off switch and a hand operated pump (2003 model). Both pumps pick up from the sump in the lazarette loccker. The electric pump is under the cupboard, below the sink. There is a filter in there too, which blocks too easily for my liking, so i fitted another filter in the locker that's easy to get to. I also put an auto pump in the engine compartment.

You dont state which engine you have, ours is on a volvo 6cyl and we still use the 140 battery as they are listed for a small commercial which the Volvo is, Paul has the nanni engine which is out of a Toyota land cruiser 4x4 so yes 110 will be fine for it.
Hope this helps
Ps the bilge pump set up on ours is as Paul describes and ours is a 2004

Hopefully all sorted now just had new 140aH fitted ready to go and enjoy the sun.
Thanks again for all your replies.
PS. Cant believe your boat is still for sale Paul, looks the business with all the extras and with your knowledge of the 805s I assume its been very well maintained. Good luck with the sale and what are you moving up to ?

I think it's a wise choice you can't have to much power:D

As for Paul, he is defecting.....
Rag n stick last I heard.... All together now...... BOO !

Only been 3 months and i'm not desperate to sell. Would like to sell it, as we can make a move, but not desperate. Have had some interest, but for one reason or another no-one has actually been in a position to buy at the moment.

Current plan is a Jeanneau Espace 1100
