New batteries - Ionian

George, the electrician, on the main street, right hand side, going south out of Nidri sells them. Bought a couple of 130ah off him two years ago. Cost is about 1 euro per a/h maybe slightly more now. Nidri Marine also sell them.

There's an English guy living on a boat in Vliho Bay, Lefkas, who I was talking to a couple of weeks ago who sells deep cycle marine batteries that he brings out from England. I didn't take much interest as I don't need them at present, but it was a well-known brand (Champion?) and the price he quoted for a 115Ah battery seemed very favourable compared with Nidri Marine. Sorry to be so vague, but he's well known locally and you could almost certainly track him down by asking at Vliho Yacht Club.

Used him ...seems good value. ..but be aware.......the batteries he sells are empty and you have to ask him to put acid in them.....we didn't:disgust:

I bought 6 from a supplier in Lefkas, they lasted 2 weeks. Check the manufacture dates.. OK they didn't cost a lot in the scheme of the boat budget but still. I will not name company as I think it was a genuine mistake and I was in a hurry to get sorted due to leaving.

How does one tell how old a battery is?

Three years ago but: Having been quoted €130 - 160 for a variety of 110 amp/hr batteries of very dubious quality in Preveza, we went up to Sarande in Albania and got two good quality Italian made batteries for €60 each; the craziest thing was seeing the identical batteries for sale in Malta a couple of weeks later, where they wanted €155 for them?
