Have you seen the advert in MBM for the new Glastron GS279 Diesel cruiser priced at £49,447. Well I saw one being demonstrated recently, and after a lengthy conversation with the salesman. The boat is fitted with a KAD32 Volvo diesel and claims to reach speeds up to 31 Knots. I must complement Glastron on what seems to be a very affordable family sports cruiser.

I currently own a Searay 230 with a very thirsty and expensive to run 4.3 litre petrol and after seeing the diesel consumption figures for the KAD 32 and the cost of the new Glastron. I am now possibly looking to change. I know there are alot of boat owners wanting to change to diesel engined boats or re-engine their current boat but find this financially uneconomic or not viable. Then I would suggest taking a look at the 279. I also believe they produce a 24ft version as well.

Bull, my Jeanneau Leader 805 (26') only does at top whack 37 knots and it has the 43. Power to weight says the Glastron wont make it.

Merry xmas and a happy new year

This is an interesting craft, whether it will actually do 31 knots or 29, I find irrelevant. However, i can find no mention anywhere that they fit a diesel engine let alone a KAD32. I may of course may be mistaken, I just can't find it.

I think Glastron do fit diesels to their British/Euro models I remember seeing adverts for the 249 with a 150hp diesel, priced at around 35k couple of years ago. Quite a few used models around, one sold recently at www.essexboatyards.com for about 29k

now you know it doesn't need all that power really.......it's going to weigh in similar to Phaeton loaded and with, say, 6 people and 3ltrs of mulled wine!
however I wouldn't settle for less than the 44 'cos the hull can clearly take it from their engine options list.
I would alspo have the plasma flat screen +dvd player fitted!
