Hello there

Think I may have just bought the country's last shiny new (old stock) 4hp Mariner outboard..

Ive been looking for a tender and outboard for a while, saw it on a website, went to see it and, well, bought it.. think the guy still has a new mariner 2 stroke 2hp in stock if any ones after one?.. I might be talking rubbish, but I think the 2 stroke will be a better option for a tender..

1 its much cheaper than the equivalent 4 stroke (£599)
2 Its lighter
3 there's less to go wrong
4 you can lie it down any way you like.

Im looking at getting a quicksilver 240 airdeck.. will the 4hp get it on the plane?

cheers

We have a quicksilver 240 and used to use a Mercury 4 HP 2 stroke on it. Planed no problem but best with a bit of weight up front. It was very lively though!

I agree the 2 stroke is better for the tender, much more manageable. But we now use a 2 HP, it's a bit steadier and much less flighty.

I have a Seago 240 airdeck for sale.... 12 months old, used probably 6 times, washed with fresh water and dried after every time used.... The reason I chose a Seago was it was the only 240 Dingy I could find rated to 5hp.... pm me if interested...

Hi,
I have just bought a new Zodiac Airdeck 240 from Chas Newens, great deal,to go with my 3.5 Tohatsu 2 stroke, year 2008.

Not had chance to try it but after a lot of research it would appear to be a good set up. It replaced my Plastimo P240 which IMHO was a bit unstable, so thats why I went for the airdeck.

Any body else with a same or similar setup, your thoughts are welcome.

So are you telling me there are actually regulations out there that say that any boat I buy over 2.5m can only be used with a 4 stroke engine.?

When I bought the two stroke I knew I could only buy old stock. Apparently they have stopped selling 2 strokes cos they kill all the fish and whales and Natterjack toads and decimate the planet and and belong to the devil and Bill Oddie and his pals get upset by them..

But i did think that if you own one you are still allowed to use it? So whats this about not being allowed to put it on a boat bigger than 2.5m.. What bloomin difference does it make how big the boat is? Its still sat there whirring away just the same - ruining civilisation and destroying rainforests, killing white rhinos and badgers...
sorry - just think its all a bit silly..

RCD

NO impact on you whatsoever, the burden of compliance is laid at door of importer/concessionaire.

If the engine was placed on the market before the emissions deadline it can still be sitting there on display for years after the deadline has passed as it has been "placed on the market".

Control is by way of import control, non compliant engines automatically become prohibited imports after deadline.

Rest easy
