Anchored off Wycliffe bay, IOW on Saturday night. Went ashore for a BBQ and a few bottles. As it was pretty dark by this time decided that anchoring overnight would be the best option. Got back to the boat and had what I’ll describe as a tiff with the girlfriend. End result is she pushed me off the back fully clothed. Yes I probably deserved it but you could say I wasn’t impressed.

Anyway, quick shower to warm up and new set of clothes on and I’m back at the rear of the boat putting the tender away in case we have to move during the night. All done, just need to put the back cover up. Last clips to do up just on the side which I can just reach at a stretch from the bathing platform. Just in mid stretch and a wave just unsettles me enough to loose my balance and I’m back in again. Managed to shout a few obscenities as I went over.

30 seconds later I’m back stood on the bathing platform dripping wet again. Girlfriend thought this was quite funny for some reason.

For a moment I thought you might be the chap I hauled out of Limehouse on Sunday.

Chap was a solo ditchcrawler, missed a footing and took a tumble.

Looks like he managed to tie the boat up while in the water and was just holding onto teh pontoon, not making any attempt to draw attention to himself.

Pontoons there are impossible to get back onto and the ladders are few and far between.

Since I took a dive a couple of years back I leave the end of a mooring warp with a bowline in it to get my foot into and help haul me out.

Sounds like the girlfriend is both bad news and bad luck. I should trade her in. Quite seriously, falling in is one thing but deliberately pushing somebody in is quite another. I dont know your medical condition but the shock of being pushed into freezing cold water with a bellyfull of beer could have been the end of you and even if you're perfectly healthy any tide could have carried you out of sight in seconds in the dark. Might have been just another RNLI statistic

Very funny esp with thesea temp as it is and fresh breeze with lots of north in it.

Where is that then (Wycliffe ?)

Whitecliff would be sheltered in SSW thro NNE so I guess ok ish on Sat night. Every time i have been there the swell is very rocky rolly.

Ok Mike I meant Whitecliff bay.

Yes there was a bit of swell but it wasn't to bad. First time I've anchored in the open so was a bit paranoid and kept waking up every 20 minutes. But certainly wouldn't worry again in the future.

PS. Please feel free to take the mickey out of SWMBO when you see her next.

Couldn't agree more, she's definitely not the sort of person that's safe to boat with as she obviously hasn't a clue about the dangers. She must be a fabulous shag for you to put up with that sort of nonsense. . . . . . . . /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
