Hello all,

I am in the process of adopting a boat for Med coastal cruising and weekend outings.

Due to financial and stylistic reasons, I am looking at boats from the late 70's - early 80's. I'd rather go for a slow yet seaworthy boat, much than a racer - I am in no rush!

I came across a Neptune 33, designed by Alan Buchanan, built by Shuttlewood in the South of England. It looks like it's in a fairly good condition, the price is ok, will visit soon.

Has anyone sailed one? Or even the sibling Neptunian 33 (the ketch version)? Any views? Any experiences? I have indeed sourced all info available online (brochures, photos, data), but cannot find any user views.

The main question is DOES IT SAIL??? :D And, would it "last" under force 6-7, should I find myself in such a situation (which will certainly happen)?

Many thanks in advance!

PS>>>> sorry, but my answers to following posts do not seem to be appearing.... I presume since this is a regulated forum... I don't get it.

Welcome

Suggest you contact pcatterall who posts here regularly as he is halfway to the Med down the canals in his Neptunian. He has posted many times about his preparations for the trip and about the trials and tribulations so far.

Boat is reasonably well suited for the job, particularly the canal bit, but is arguably less than ideal for long term living in the Med where more modern boats are probably more suitable. And of course older boats inevitably need more work and expenditure to get them suitable for the job.

Suggest you look in on the Liveaboard forum where you will find lots of useful threads on boating in the Med and choice of boats etc.

Many thanks Tranona,

Maybe I was a little unclear in my writing, so excuse me. I am not planning to live aboard for more than a weekend or (to say) 15 day holiday stints.

As for more modern yachts, well yes, it's only that they cost a lot more to purchase and I simply cannot afford one right now...
