CHESAPEAKE(sp?)

He is going to be at Uni there for the next ten months, in a very small town, in Washington. (state/DC ???)

He is extremely polite, very well mannered and is a qualified Coastal Skipper and has Yachtmaster theory.

I have sailed with him as crew and as Skipper on literally 1,000 of miles! He is a fantastic foredeck Bod, I would, and will, sail anywhere in the world with him.

I know there are several of our cousins on here, although I can not remember your names, sorry.

Must be worth a post on the various crew seeking sites (crewseekers.com etc). I have sailed out of Chicago on the lake and very very nice it was too. good luck with it.
 
Hampton Roads Sailing Club, near Norfolk VA, has quite a good racing fleet of cruisers racers and one designs. Ken Saylor at North Sails in Hampton pretty much knows everyone there - he's a nice guy and can probably help get him on a boat. The loft phone number is on the North website.

Err there is a few thousand miles of geographical ambiguity there.
 
be more precise about where he is located, and what sort of sailing he likes best, and I'm sure I will be able to fix him up. The Chesapeake is a big place and Washington State is on the opposite side of the country to Washington DC -However I have plenty of contacts in both /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
 
Sorry I can't help directly. I spent six weeks cruising the Chesapeake back in May-June. People were amazingly friendly and I can't think your nephew will have much difficulty finding an opportunity. There are several yacht clubs in downtown Washington itself, but Annapolis is the best place to go. If he's not shy, all he has to do is walk into a club and ask.

I suggest you repost this on some of the US yacht forums, such as CSBB and Cruising World BB. Both of these have many contributors based in the Chesapeake area, and I'm sure you would get a positive response.

BTW Do be sure you mean Washington DC and not Washington State. There is great sailing in the latter too, out from Seattle and Anacortes to the San Juan Islands.
 
Just head down to Annapolis which is the US capital of Sailing, just outside DC bout 40 - 50 mins from the centre of DC (on a good day...ok a very good day!). Plenty of yacht clubs and yachts there including the sunsail base, if you cant pick up a sail there you wont pick one up anywhere!
 
Definitely Annapolis -- it's worth the drive from DC. Will he have a car? Public transportation is poor between DC and Annapolis.

Call Eastport Yacht Club (+1 410 267-9549) and explain he's looking for sailing. Staff should be able to connect him with someone.

If he's social, hang around Davis' Pub, also in Eastport (an area within Annapolis) -- lot's of sailors gather there. The North Sail loft is down the street and the sailmaker may be able to make a connection as well. Further down the same street is J/World that organizes Thursday night races and know everyone in the J/ fleets.
