I'm interested in finding out if anyone had any experience of the seakeeping/handling on the smaller Nelson 28? Does it compare to the bigger Nelsons? how about fuel consumption and range with 150 hp engines?

IMHO By reputation a Nelson will go through almost anything, sometimes literally some would say. A boat used by the profesionals, pilots , harbourmasters police etc. Also roll a certain amount. Not exactly comfort and elegance but if I had to save my own life in really rotten conditions, other than a magic wand it would be my choice. Fuel consumption not so dissimilar to your 180s, just 15% less.

Selling one to your missus, or anybody elses missus, may be a different matter.

I had a Halmatic 34 also known as a Humber 34 or Weymouth 34 it originaly had 2 x 180hp diesels which i Changed for 2 x 265 .

It was not a true Nelson but I understand the designer used to work for Nelson before Halmatic. If it was a painting it would have been in the school of Nelson .

A very strong boat , excellent sea boat which will take more bad weather than you would .

I would avoid wooden hull or GRP hull and wooden superstructure boats and look at all grp , but definitely look at the Halmatic which trade second hand for £50 to 95 K.

Give me a call if you want more details.
