Hi, I'm looking to ship my contessa 32 over-land to France, preferably Le Havre.

The boat has been laid up for nearly two years and i'd rather not have her sailed by another crew as she needs a little attention andf i'd like to replace the standing rigging if someone else were taking her out.

The problem comes with shipping over land in Italy, has anyone used a shipping company there they can recommend?

Thanks

Michael

We have just sold a boat located in UK to Italy and every UK based transporter we contacted warned that Italian adminstration was difficult - several said they had been but refused to go there again.

In the end we found a Dutch company who would do it for a sensible price, but substantially cheaper to Croatia. As the boat was destined for near the Croatian border it went there. The company was http://www.vandewetering.nl/gb/index.html

Your problem is that Brindisi is so far south.

Every company I sourced to bring my 31' HR from Holland to Italy refused because of the costs and bureaucracy involved in Italy. It needs permission (and payment) to every province it must pass through, not to mention police vehicles fore and aft if over 3m, which mine was. To obtain all those arrangement and documents within a sensible time frame is difficult and expensive. Everyone advised to truck to Slovenia and sail from there across the Adriatic to Italy.

Eventually I found a one-man Dutch outfit prepared to wait on the Brenner pass until well after midnight and chance it to northern Italy when, as he put it, the Polizia Stradale were in their beds. Brindisi is far too far south to try that one. No, I don't still have his details, sorry.

Agree with all the other comments about avoiding Italy. The two sensible alternatives are Slovenia or SofF where it is easy to get transport to channel coast or even all the way back to UK. However, be aware you are probably looking at £6k+ - probably 25% of the value of the boat. Will be little cheaper having it professionally delivered by sea, even if it were in ready to go condition.

Boat has very little value in the Med compared with UK, but you might find a buyer (if that is what you want) if you moved it to Greece - but that is even further away from home.
