Can anyone recomend a Marine Engineer in Chichester, preferably a Yanmar agent.

I know of Lansdale Bailey and John Cutler but have not used either.

Thanks

AD Marine Services at HYC (Hayling Island) on 02392 465638, but you mustn't call him until he's put my gearbox back together again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif . Yanmar and Beta agent, knowledgable and helpful.

Thanks.

Have now made contact with Brian at Harbour Eng and he'll be doing the job this week.

Nice to have a recomendation rather than just pick one.

PS Lesson learned this weekend, don't overtighten the bleed screws on a Yanmar 2GM20, it's surprisingly easy to rip the threads out of the fuel filter assembly !!!!

Would it be helpful if people making recommendations in response to posts like this could offer a bit more information than just a name?

Otherwise, we can't know if a recommendation is being made simply because someone turned up to change a set of oil filters on time, or because the outfit concerned has demonstrated a set of uniquely valuable qualities which set them above 'industry norms', so to speak.

Picking an example at random from the responses above – surely it's more useful to know whether a gearbox works properly after it's repaired, and not whether the man, woman or boy who's promised to do it appears knowledgeable or helpful before putting it back together!

I'm sure all the posters above are a) genuine and b) trying to be helpful, but really we are about as well-informed after reading your responses as we would be after a flick through the yellow pages.

Just an observation... what do others think?

i mentioned John Cutler because he has an excellent reputation and is known locally for excellent service and good value.

I live locally and I know him, and I know of good reports of his work for other people.

In a community as tight as Emsworth with so many boats in the harbour around the Chichester area, a tradesman can't afford to do a bad job.

That better?

I was also going to recommend John Cutler, but as his brother is regular crew it may have appeared that I'm biased.

John fitted new shaft coupling, Ambassador rope-cutter, fuel emergency cut-off for me recently. On schedule and thorough. Highly recommended and as you say the Emsworth community don't take any trade prisoners!

I bought my Victoria 800 from Chichester and prior to bringing it to the Thames I had John Cutler service the Volvo 2010. He had maintained it from new and re-assured me as to it's condition before purchase.
