NEED OPINION\'S PLEASE

I NEED SOME HELP BEEN OUT OF BOATING FOR 3 YEARS AND WANT TO GET ANOTHER SO THE QUESTION IS . dO I BUY A BAYLINER 175 WITH WAKE TOWER 3L 165HP ENGINE OR BAYLINER 195 WITH 4.3L 220HP ENGINE , THE REASON I ASK IS THAT I HAD A FLETCHER MANY YEARS AGO WITH A 3.7L 165HP ENGINE IN IT AND IT STRUGLES A BIT FOR WAKE BOARDING AND THE MONO SKI IT DID NOT ENTERTAIN. ONE CONCERN IS FUEL CONSUPTION ON THE 4.3L WILL IT BE MUCH WORSE THAN THE 3L BEING THAT THE 3L I THOUGHT MIGHT NEED TO DO MUCH MORE WORK! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Fuel consumption will be more of a function of the size of the boat and the speed you operate. If it is a full planning hull, an under powered boat will burn more fuel per mile than one with an engine big enough to get up to full planning speed. That was my experience on a 21-footer.

The boat we have now, however, is much larger (16,000 lb) and has an 8.1L engine. I can get between 19 and 20 knots at full throttle up on a plane. Mostly though, I cruise at around 7.5 knots for economy. I have posted the fuel consumption data at:

And when you do post it in the MoBo forum I suggest you TURN OFF THE CAPS LOCK! It is considered shouting and bad manners.

Also - don't put an apostrophe in front of an 's' unless it is to indicate possession - it is not needed in front of a simple plural.

Thinking before you post and checking your posts carefully will avoid you getting flamed by the self righteous, indignant or just mischevious souls who frequent these fora.

Another MOBO! just goes to show why they make such a lot of wash!

I dident look at the fule consumption figgers poated in the next post but an "8.0 liter" engin!!! at current prices i would think a sailboat would make sence,quiter as well! And on short joureys a sailboats not a lot slower getting there!

Sorry i just seen it was posted by QE too of course the USA hasent quite the same prices as hear!! And i have visited your web site, very nice boat!Must be really great crusing that area with that boat, comfortable!!!!
