This is a not uncommon arrangement of symbols on the Android Navionics chart for Croatia:

If you query the anchor symbol it says, quite reasonably, "Anchorage"

If you query any of the ship symbols in the achorage they all say "Transient Berths : NO"

I suspect that the bay is shown as an anchorage because that's what it was traditionally but the fact that there are no transient berths is intended to mean that you cannot actually anchor there but have to use the paid mooring buoys provided and if you try to anchor within 300m or something of the buoys, you will be told to move.

Is this is interpretation of these symbols as understood by everyone else?

The info on things like "transient berths" etc on Navionics is frankly pants

For instance, at our home berth it persists in saying there are no transient (ie visitor) berths despite the presence of a 120m pontoon specifically for visitors!

I've corrected it several times only for the original misinformation to reappear.

And don't get me started about user contributions! Which are mostly wrong! (Same applies, I've corrected the info about Fambridge several times only to have the twerp who got it wrong change it back again. I've given up and turned off the user data layer altogether because I don't trust it)

This bay is 44 09.49N 014.49.87E but there are many more.

Thanks Bru. So you think that a berth refers to anchor use? I'm not familiar with "anchoring" being is referred to as "berthing" but perhaps that is a standard marine term for large vessels?

"Transient" and "visitor" I can understand.

Never having used this - I'd have assumed (and assuming makes an ass of u and me) that this meant there were no visitor moorings rather than visitor anchoring. There may be moorings but not for short stay use.??

That's another interpretation which is just as valid. There are moorings (as in mooring buoys) but they are actually intended for visitor / overnight use and have to be paid for.

This is really is not very good as Bru says! :(

As far as I can tell, "Transient berths" is Navionics speak for what normal people call visitor berths.

I don't think they differentiate between walk ashore berths and visitor moorings

Either way, the information is so unreliable that I never bother looking at it
