I HAVE A PRINCESS 35 WITH 2X200 VOLVOS ON SHAFTS, THAT TOPS OUT AT 23/4 KNOTS WITH A CLEAN BUM. ANY (NOT TO EXPENSIVE) SUGGESTIONS HOW I MIGHT GET A FEW MORE KNOTS OUT OF HER?

Well, You can go with the tide and wind !

You could bring the weight down or move stuff forward?

How much speed are you after? you can get bigger engines or maybe bigger props if your revs are high?

3 KNOTS WOULD BE FINE, SHE ONLY LEVELS OFF AT 3800 RPM(MAX) THE TRIM TABS SEEM TO HAVE NO EFFECT REGARDS TO SPEED AT ANY REVS!

On some boats eg mine the tabs dont have any great effect on speed only on attitude. I think it's mainly with semi displacement boats that tabbing down can increase speed quite substantially

Re need for speed.

My P33 with the earlier Bennett hull has got trim tabs and extensive and exhaustive testing (10 mins at WOT when I first got her home)proves that fully trimming up and down made a dramatic er 1/2 a knot difference on the GPS or meebbe not much at all actually.Ie no change.
However it did enable me to see out of the front of the boat when trim tabs fully down.Of course as you are well aware getting that last knot or two will also make fuel consumption double or at least increase out of all proportion to the speed gained.

try getting rid of a load of water, not filling up with fule all the time, chucking out non-essential things like er, anything, and then run downwind and downtide. Bet that'll do summink...

Re: SPEED

Does anybody else feel very reluctant to sit at WOT for any length of time cos you just KNOW something will let go in a big way.Or is it just us owners of old heaps who sit listening to every change in note or vibration. The further offshore the harder you listen.Only known method to enable engine to run as sweetly as a bird is a bottle of beer even better is several bottles of beer after which you tend not to care much at all,cos you know you can strip that engine an rebuild it on the kitchen table for no more than a fiver.

Re: help for oldgit

absolutely. Also a strange tinkling sound arose the other day. It turned out to a zip puller.

amyway, mynew discovery (for offshore) is earmuffs. These keep your ears nice and warm PLUS you can't hear a thing...

Re: help for oldgit

Which ear muffs do you recommend the 1.99 woolworths type or praps the 129.95 exactly the same but marinised pair with Helly something or other stamped on em availalble from your friendly local swinderlery.
Why have a time consuming and bed wettingly expensive engine rebuild when a set of ear muffs will achieve the same effect.

Re: SPEED

I used to cruise my P35 at 22 knot's as that was what seemed to be max less 200 revs, but got sick of things blowing up, maybe nothing to do with speed. Now find 18 knots with occesional faster quite ok. It says in the hand book, 27 knots. But I dont know how they got that figgure. Maybe brand new, no dinghy on davits, no water, fuel or even wearing no cloths might just do it. But I doubt it. Anyway 20 knots is quite fast enough in most seas, Big thing is a P35 can keep it up in nearly anything, or go round Portland messy bits at 8 knots quite comfortable. Speed is relative, but always been going twice as fast as rag thingy in any conditions.

Anyway back to the begining. Polished bum, props, etc, may get 25 knots, couple o0f weeks later down to 24 ish. Anti fouled Feb? by september 18 knots, if no cleaning bum.
