Hello everyone,

I hope you can help me with this. I've been using this coolant for my Volvo Penta MD2020 for almost two years. Here’s the link:

Amazon.es

I still have some left, but a friend recently pointed out that the product is labeled as "organic" and "long life," which made me question whether it's suitable for my engine. I also have a new, unopened bottle, but now I'm unsure.

Based on my research and the engine manual, it specifies using a glycol-based product. This coolant's formula lists ethylene glycol, but I’d appreciate your advice to confirm if it's safe to use.

Thanks a lot!

Both conventional low silicate type antifreeze and organic acid technology (OAT) type are ethylene glycol based. It is the corrosion inhibitors which are different

The MD2020 range pre-dates VP's introduction of OAT antifreeze, beginning in May 2010, and should really have continued to use the conventional low silicate type. Generally the two types should not be mixed and if OAT is to be used in an older engine it should be first cleaned using oxalic acid as described in VP service bulletin 26-0-29.

Best advice now I think is to continue to use an OAT type but if you wish to change back to a conventional low silicate type drain the engine and flush thoroughly before doing so.
