I'm sure I'm missing the blindingly obvious (as usual) but the links on the RYA website lead to email links to clubs etc so I could spend an awful lot of time emailing to and fro to find a close date.

Anyone have any recommendations?

You'll be wanting Elite Sailing in Chatham Marina. 01634 890512. The next one is 02/03 according to their website and £99.

Not affiliated in anyway, see their boats on the Medway out in all weathers and did a couple of courses years ago.

Edit - nice avatar Murv!

Just in case your interested Murv and like me the last exam you took was using a quill pen and papyrus, these courses consist of an instructor desperately trying to get half a dozen "students" to remember something he told them 5 mins previously.

Its usually all good fun washed down with tea and biscuits and far be it from be to infer in any way that nobody is allowed to *fail*

Definately worth doing and like me you may completely accidently actually learn stuff. :)

Not entirely sure of the geography in that neck of the woods, might as well be Holland as far as I am concerned but there is a place at Wat Tyler country park that does vhf courses, run by a guy called Pete Fairbrother. Google essex powerboat school

HF

Thanks for that, bit of a trek from here though

That's perfect, thank you.
The avatar was inspired by the amount of luck we've had with this boat, and is probably the first thing that'll happen to us as soon as we get it on the water!!!

Thanks Fred.
Desperately didn't want to do the course, convinced myself that I'd self teach (already licensed) but I know deep down that I really need to just do it!

Also introduces you to a whole new bunch of people who will wave at you as they go past...usually leaving you wondering where the hell they know you from ?

We are running one on Sunday at South Mimms Premier Inn, £120 plus £30 exam fee.

Email me - chris@northernexposurerescue.org.uk - if interested.

Hi Chris
One of our customers, Barry (has the large sailing boat in the compound opposite you) runs RYA VHF courses out at Hoo Ness Yacht Club and I think when I was talking to him Friday has a few coming up. I think (from memory) he charges about £65. If you're interested either pop in the office or I can pm you his contact details.
Jenny

What do you mean, you are all in London surely?!?:D

HF

Well, it's all kind of sub-boroughs of London really, or will be before too long!

That's great, thanks Jenny, will pop in at the weekend when we're down :D

Elite are pretty good. Medway Yacht Club on the other side of the river are cheaper - if they are running a course some time soon - their schedules are a bit unpredictable.
