Ok, informed ones, anyone know who or where parts for the now defunked Neco capstans can be obtained or maybe you have one lying around, I am in need of the tufnol bearings in particular, but would take the whole lot if you have one.

Neco are I am afraid defunct, ours got the deep six, fitted a lofrans, much speedier and better pulling power. The CJ is nothing like the Neco, but can be purchased brand new, a good capstan and again much quicker than the old neco.

however in this thread the OP managed to get his one up and running, maybe you could speak to him?

neco

never come across a Neco that runs both ways, unless there has been a relay put in the circuit, why would you want it to run two ways??

it would be handy if the rope crossed got trapped on the drum
just to run in reverse to undo

i dont have any relays or any switches as yet
have asked the same question at
cj capstans
regards mike

also would you know if they were 2 speed????

Re overlaps, reversing will not assist, only make things worse. Been there got the Tshirt, all you can do in that case is motor up the rope get a bit of slack and undo the mess yourself manualy. No Neco I have seen is two speed, nor is the CJ to the best of my knowledge. The master winch you see on our boat will reverse, but two control switches are required, and a relay box. A warping winch going forward and reverse could cause you more trouble than enough. Different with chain but then again overuns in chain must be a nightmare.
